NOC Receives Clean Audit Reports /noc-news/noc-receives-clean-audit-reports/ Fri, 23 Oct 2020 20:15:18 +0000

The 91成人 Board of Regents received an internal audit report from Wade Fisher of Hinkle & Company, PC and an external audit from Dan Bledsoe of Finley & Cook, PLLC.

Both audits were 鈥渃lean audits鈥 according to Fisher and Bledsoe.

鈥淚 appreciate so much the work that (Vice President for Financial Affairs) Anita Simpson and her staff put in to ensure that our finances are handled properly. In my 10 years at NOC, we have always had clean audits and that is a testimony to Anita and her staff鈥檚 hard work and diligence.鈥

The updated enrollment report and financial reports were shared.

91成人 President Dr. Chery Evans commented on the status of the institution. NOC has been working to secure additional external funding to help offset the overall decrease in our enrollment and budget deficit.

鈥淚 am pleased to report that since our September 8, 2020 Regents meeting, NOC has secured almost $600,000 in external funding through federal CARES funds and private 91成人 Foundation (NOCF) funds,鈥 said President Evans.

鈥淲e are grateful to receive the additional federal CARES Act funding allocation totaling $119,000 from the Governor鈥檚 office to help us offset the unexpected costs and revenue losses associated with the pandemic. We appreciate the efforts of Representative Kyle Hilbert and Secretary of Budget Mike Maizzei to help secure these funds for higher education.鈥

The regents also approved NOC鈥檚 financial report for September.

In addition, the regents approved a Spring 2021 Academic Calendar revision. The first day of the Spring 2021 semester is moved to Tuesday, Jan. 19 and NOC will not have a spring break. The semester ends May 6, 2021. These changes are an effort to help prevent a spring spike in the virus and to keep NOC鈥檚 academic calendar aligned with OSU鈥檚 as agreed with our NOC/OSU Gateway Partnership.

In the administrator updates, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Pam Stinson explained a new Weekend College program that will provide flexibility for students in Spring 2021. Students can take classes on Friday evening and all-day Saturday for three weekends. The classes are in person at the University Center in Ponca City or NOC Online Live. NOC is partnering with the University Center in this new program.

Raydon Leaton, Vice President for Enid, reported that a recent Oklahoma Blood Institute Blood Drive netted 51 blood donations. He said the President Leadership Council students assisted with the project.

The regents also heard a report from athletic trainers Julie Baggett and Summer McClure on NOC athletic department protocols for Covid-19.

The next regent鈥檚 meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 11 in Tonkawa. The regents also added a special January meeting on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021.

NOC partners with professionals to assist with academic programs /noc-news/noc-partners-with-professionals-to-assist-with-academic-programs-2/ Fri, 23 Oct 2020 20:14:31 +0000 /?p=23992

91成人 welcomed business professionals from nine academic areas Tuesday, Oct. 20 to a virtual meeting with NOC instructors in those nine academic fields.

The advisory boards meet annually with NOC instructors to discuss the changing workplace and how instructors can better prepare students for the future.

The partnership between the business community and NOC has been going on for many years. Some divisions have had these partnerships for as many as 30 years. This was the second year the advisory committees all met simultaneously.

鈥淣OC academic programs are better because of these public private partnerships,鈥 said NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans. 鈥淓ach year our faculty and administrators listen to the professionals who invest their time to serve on these boards. Our curriculum and instruction is continually improved with their valuable input and ideas.鈥

Advisory boards are held in the following areas: Agricultural & Biological Sciences, Alumni, Behavioral Sciences, Business, Criminal Justice, Digital Media Institute, Mass Communications, Nursing, Pre-Engineering/Process Technology, and Health, Physical Education & Recreation.

鈥淥ur advisory board partners have been able to provide invaluable workplace perspective on the demands of each profession,鈥 said Dr. Pam Stinson, Vice President for Student Affairs. 鈥淪tudents are educated on the content they need to know to do the job, but we also want them to be aware of job demand, a typical workday, and the additional challenges of each position. These partnerships offer that perspective as well as opportunities for internships and job shadowing.鈥

鈥淚t was amazing to see so many community members and workforce partners giving of their time to share their expertise with the faculty of NOC,鈥 said Kathleen Swain, Coordinator of Student Academic Success Services and advisory board event organizer. 鈥淭he input of the advisory board members can enhance the education our students receive and help ensure that they possess essential skills and knowledge when they enter the workforce.鈥

Before the breakout sessions, NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans welcomed the advisory board members and shared items of interest regarding 91成人.

Dark Phase with New ERP System Starts October 23rd /noc-news/dark-phase-with-new-erp-system-starts-october-23rd/ Thu, 22 Oct 2020 20:13:30 +0000

The Dark Phase for our new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system with Jenzabar One will begin tomorrow. Over the past eighteen months, NOC has been working with Jenzabar, Inc., on a new software system. It has been nearly 30 years since Northern has installed a new software system. This is an important transition and will be an important improvement for NOC.

This is a major opportunity for Northern to gain the advantages of new database technology to serve our students better and to make our own work smoother and more efficient. The system will help improve student advising, recruitment, retention, budgeting, event management, human resource services, and student life activities just to name a few of the areas that will benefit. In mid-November, all employees and students will be engaged with Jenzabar One as users and will enjoy the new user-friendly dashboards. Additional modules will be rolled out throughout the spring semester.

J1 Go-Live Schedule –

  • TODAY October 22 at 11:59 p.m. is the last day to do business in the current system for everyone except Payroll; they go live in January.
  • DARK PHASE – October 23 – 30 Data conversion from PX to Jenzabar One [Do not attempt to log on to Campus Connect or POISE]
  • GO LIVE Phase 1 – Approximately November 2 -6 [Data conversion phase]
  • GO LIVE Phase 2 – Approximately November 9 -13 [Final testing phase]

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • All spring enrollment processes will continue, but will be handled manually. During the time of no electronic enrollment, students should work with their advisors directly to complete the paper Trial Study (see attachment) and return completed form to the Registrar’s Office.
  • MyNOC portal (JICS) will be VIEW ONLY during this time. Any changes to student bill or schedule after Oct. 22nd will not reflect on myNOC during this down time.
  • You will still be able to use PowerFAIDS (financial aid), Blackboard (academic coursework), JRM (student recruitment), and the NOC website throughout this process.
  • All J1 production databases will not be available.

More information will be shared in the coming weeks about the enhancements to our new system. For assistancestudents and employees should reference our online directory at . Thank you for your ongoing support during this transition.

NOC, University Center partner in new Weekend College for Spring 2021 /noc-news/noc-university-center-partner-in-new-weekend-college-for-spring-2021/ Thu, 22 Oct 2020 20:12:33 +0000 /?p=23988

91成人 is partnering with the University Center in Ponca City for the newly created Weekend College for Spring 2021.

The new program offers college credit classes on Friday evenings and Saturdays. Students can earn credits for an Associate of Science degree in Arts and Sciences – General Studies within a 2-year cycle.

In addition to onsite at the University Center, all Weekend College classes are also offered through sections of NOC’s Online Live, allowing students who otherwise could not attend in person in Ponca City the flexibility to participate in the program.

Classes for Weekend College meet Friday evening and all-day Saturday over three weeks. Class times are Friday from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. – noon and 1:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.

“These classes are designed to give students another option for completing an associate degree around busy life schedules when jobs, family time, and other activities may conflict with traditional day and night courses,” said Dr. Pam Stinson, Vice President for Academic Affairs.

University Center Chief Executive Officer Adam Leaming is excited for the new venture.

“The UC has historically sought to serve the non-traditional student,” Leaming said. “Now with NOC’s weekend in person format, we can expand our portfolio of services to include a new group of students who seek that in person college experience that can have profound impacts on a person’s future while at the same time allowing them to continue juggling their work and personal life.”

Spring 2021 classes offered in the Weekend College format include Orientation, English Composition II, Math Applications, Introduction to Psychology, Late American History, Introduction to Oral Communication, Introduction to Health, Education & Wellness, and Introduction to Process Technology.

The program assists non-traditional students who cannot attend classes during a traditional Monday-Friday timeframe and wish to obtain an associate degree.

It also helps traditional students who desire to accelerate their degree completion or need to fit a course in their schedule. Concurrent students are also eligible to take courses in the weekend format.

Individuals working full-time needing college credit for advancement and promotion may take advantage as well as individuals seeking a career change, individuals planning to re-enter the job market or anyone who desires to increase their learning or expertise.

Students can take from one to four classes each semester in Weekend College and can take either online classes or summer classes to get 30 credits per year, allowing them to graduate with an Associate of Arts and Science degree within two years.

Tuition and fees are the same as day courses. Financial aid and scholarships are available. Online academic advising, tutoring, and other amenities are also available for Weekend College students.

Students may enroll in Weekend College at , call 91成人 at 580.628.6207 or the University Center at 580.718.5600 or email the UC at  .

NOC, a public two-year community college, serves approximately 5,700 students annually on the home campus in Tonkawa, branch in Enid, NOC/OSU Gateway Program in Stillwater, online, and the University Center in Ponca City. Of these students about 60% receive financial aid and/or scholarships. Over 80% of NOC students complete their degree with zero debt.

NOC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers associate degrees in three general areas: Arts, Science and Applied Science. The associate degree fulfills lower-division course work which is applicable towards a bachelor’s degree.

The University Center in Ponca City was founded in 1999 with 40 students and two classrooms. Today, in its new location the UC serves approximately 250 students each semester with 16 different classrooms. The UC provides courses and programs from its two college partners, NOC and NWOSU. In addition, The UC serves students by providing financial aid assistance, academic advisement, testing services, and more.
